Franchise FAQ
Birchbark Roofing is the roofing company of the Cedarwell family, and every location is independently owned and operated. If you’re thinking about opening one, these are the questions people ask us most. Clear answers, no runaround. That’s how we work on a roof and how we work with franchisees.
Common Questions
Do I need roofing experience to open a Birchbark Roofing franchise?
No, prior roofing experience is not required, though it helps. We look for people who can run a business, manage a crew, and care about how a home is left after the work. If you’ve run a service business before, you already understand the most important part: showing up when you said you would and doing what you said you’d do. We teach the roofing side through our training program.
What is the total investment range for a Birchbark Roofing franchise?
Total investment varies by market and real estate conditions, but prospective franchisees should expect a range that covers the franchise fee, equipment, vehicle, initial materials, insurance, and working capital for the first months. We provide a detailed breakdown in our Franchise Disclosure Document so you see every dollar before you commit. No surprises is the whole point of how we operate.
Is financing available?
Birchbark Roofing does not provide direct financing, but we can point you toward third-party lenders who work with franchisees in the home services space. Many of our owners use SBA-backed loans or rollover funding from retirement accounts. Your eligibility depends on your credit history and personal financial situation, and we recommend speaking with a franchise attorney or financial advisor before you sign anything.
What territory or exclusivity do I get?
Each Birchbark Roofing location is granted a defined operating territory, with specifics spelled out in the franchise agreement. The size and shape of that territory depends on population, housing density, and how far a crew can reasonably travel for tear-off and installation days. We do not sell overlapping territories, because an independent owner needs room to build a reputation without competing against another Birchbark sign.
How long is the training program?
Training runs several weeks and covers both roofing operations and business systems. You’ll learn estimating, material selection across our approved brands like GAF, CertainTeed, and Owens Corning, job-site safety, and the Cedarwell Care Promise standards that every location follows. That includes shoe covers and drop cloths inside the house, quiet tools when the kids are asleep, pet-safe product choices where available, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. We train you on all of it before you ever put a ladder against a house.
What ongoing fees or royalties does Birchbark Roofing charge?
Franchisees pay an ongoing royalty and a brand fund contribution, both described in detail in the Franchise Disclosure Document. The royalty covers the things that keep the system working: training updates, marketing support, and access to the Cedarwell family of roofing companies’ purchasing relationships. We believe the fees should be predictable and tied to what you actually earn from the work.
How long does it take to open once I sign the franchise agreement?
Most franchisees open within three to six months of signing, depending on how quickly you secure a location, complete training, and hire your first crew. The permitting and licensing timeline varies by state and municipality. We help you map out the sequence early so you’re not waiting on a step you didn’t know was coming.
What support do I get after opening?
You get ongoing support in three areas. First, operational: help with estimating, job scheduling, and quality checks against the Cedarwell Care Promise. Second, marketing: brand assets, local advertising guidance, and help with your web presence. Third, purchasing: access to our approved material suppliers, including GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral. You also get a framework for the 365-Day Done Right Promise, which covers every repair and replacement Birchbark performs. If the work isn’t right, we make it right.
What kind of person makes the best Birchbark Roofing owner?
The best owners are calm, careful, and specific. They like systems and they care about how a job is finished. If you notice whether a walkway got swept or a gate got left open, you’ll fit in here. We look for people who want to build a local business that families trust, not someone chasing a quick flip. The roof work matters, but so does how the house is left afterward.
What’s the next step if I’m interested?
Call us. You’ll talk to a live person, not a voicemail tree. We’ll ask a few questions about your background and your market, then send you the initial franchise information if it looks like a fit. From there, you’ll review the Franchise Disclosure Document, talk to existing franchisees, and take your time deciding. We’d rather you move slowly and get it right than rush into something you don’t fully understand.
Still Have Questions?
The best way to get answers is to talk to a person, not a form. Call (424) 766-4937 and you’ll reach a live person 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Or submit the form below and we’ll follow up with the information you need.
